Ranch & Barn

A ranch and barn in the Western Catskills, New York, now complete — finished, furnished and lived in, only awaiting photography.

Before anything inside was changed, there was the house itself — low, long, and quietly settled into its clearing. Until the finished rooms are photographed, it is shown here as we first came to understand it: a study of the house from the drive, with its long standing-seam roof and clapboard walls, a deep covered porch held in shade, a gravel drive edged with stone-bordered beds of hosta and perennials, and the woods drawn close behind.
